Support Your Local Artisan

‘Tis the season for gift giving.  It’s super easy to get caught up in all the Black Friday and Cyber sales going on….which actually is just turning into the “Everything is on sale from the week of Thanksgiving until Christmas” sale.  I know it’s easy because I do it!  I check my e-mail every morning to see what the “Sale of the Day,” is.  In the spirit of, “Support Your Local Small Business,” this past weekend, I’d also like to propose, “Support Your Local Artisan.”  You know one.  We all do.  They’re the people working frivolously into the night hours after their day jobs are over in some corner, room or garage of their home.  They’re the moms and dads just like you and I that work on their passion after they put their kids to bed.  Enter Wild Quartz. I had the chance to sit down with Tricia Tate, wife, mom, friend and artisan and discuss her passion.  By day she works at a hair salon (making people happy is her obvious passion) but by night she is a Jeweler hand making her pieces from all kinds of stones, metals, crystals, wood…you name it.  She also highly believes in the metaphysical healing powers of crystals and can custom make you a piece to help you with anything from anxiety to depression.  Plus, they’re REALLY, REALLY pretty!  Each piece is made with intention, compassion and purpose with you specifically in mind.  You can’t necessarily get that at a big box store.

Artisans have to purchase all of their equipment up front and many of these can be costly!  I had the extreme pleasure of visiting Tricia’s studio first hand.  I was surrounded by stones, fasteners, chains, welding equipment, wiring, machinery, safety equipment…etc.  It can take a long time to recoup the costs an artisan has to dish out before actually making any money.

By purchasing something you’re not only getting a one of a kind piece or gift, you’re also an encouragement beyond your knowledge.  As an artist myself, I can attest to the fact that working in your passion and gifting is a form of therapy.  When you’re able to create, whether it’s jewelry, art, a cake, clothes, candles, etc. and someone loves your creation enough to spend their cold, hard cash on it?  That’s an amazing feeling!  It gives an artist validation and purpose!

So, if you’re looking for a special gift for someone no matter their life face (find yours or their’s here), give my friend Tricia at Wild Quartz a try.  She’s working on the final stages of an amazing website (up any day) where you can buy pre-made pieces or make a custom order.  She’ll also have her artwork and her husband’s woodworking pieces available.  For now, contact her via e-mail at triciatate17@gmail.com or give her a follow on Instagram @wildquartz where you can DM her.  Her pieces are a steal ranging in price from $30-$100 and come in a plethora of choices in bracelets, rings and necklaces.  Get an amazing piece and the satisfaction of helping someone out because isn’t that what it’s all about?

Are you an Artisan or know someone who is that would like to be featured?  I LOVE getting to know fellow artists.  Give me a shout and let’s collaborate!
